Ta'anis Esther falls on Thursday, 11 Adar (Mar. 4).
The takonoh of the ta'anis was to remember that
the Jews fasted and beseeched Hashem in the time of Esther,
to save them from their enemies. The minhag is to give
three half shekels as a zecher of the machtzis
hashekel.
Parshas Zochor, which one is medoraisah
obligated to hear read from a Sefer Torah, with a
minyan, is read on Shabbos. There are Achronim
who rule that women are also obligated to hear this reading
(Rav Yechiel Michel Tuketzinsky).<

from all over the world to express their opinions about
Israel and its separation fence.
Antisemitism Moves to the Hague

On Sunday The Hague became the new arena for European
antisemitism in anticipation of the opening of the hearing on
the security fence. The international courthouse is located
in a secluded palace surrounded by a wall and a large garden
that separate it from the streets.
Income for Israeli Universities Last Year: $2.068
Billion

Income for Israel's institutions of higher learning grew 2.2
percent last year to $2.068 billion according to a recent
report. A ranking of the country's top twenty institutions by
Dunn & Bradstreet shows the Hebrew University continues to
lead with $458 million, followed by the University of Tel
Aviv with $378 million. In third place is the University of
Be'er Sheva with $270 million.
Movement for Fairness in Government Asks to Present
Opinion in Court

The Movement for Fairness in Government filed a request
asking the High Court for permission to state its position in
the longstanding case on the validity of municipal ordinances
limiting the sale of pork and pork products in the downtown
areas of Tiberius, Beit Shemesh and Carmiel.
Shechitoh Demonstration to be Held in Jerusalem for Daf
Yomi

To help Daf Yomi learners proceed through maseches Chulin,
a lecture and a live shechitoh demonstration will
be held this motzei Shabbos in Jerusalem at Cheftzadi
Halls (Heichalei Hasimcha) on Yirmiyohu Street, the latest in
a series of lectures and live demonstrations organized by
Meoros HaDaf HaYomi to illustrate the halochos of
treifos covered in the upcoming Daf Yomi
sugyos.
IDF to Focus on Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces plans to step up its activities in
the Gaza Strip, including sending in forces for short-term
operations and stepping up assassinations of senior Hamas and
Islamic Jihad officials in the Strip, according to a report
in Ha'aretz. This is in contrast to the West Bank
where the IDF is cutting down its presence mainly due to
budget reductions.
Wireless System for Burglaries on Shabbos in Bnei
Brak

A wireless warning system to prevent break-ins and to provide
updates and reports to residents in different areas via
gabboim and kehilloh contact figures will soon
be installed in Bnei Brak with assistance from the Jewish
Agency and the Home Front Command.
Chumash Or HaChaim with the Yismach Moshe commentary

No lengthy explanation is required to reiterate the sublime
greatness of the Or HaChaim HaKodosh commentary on the Torah.
Every year, it is learned in yeshivas, and in many botei
midrash, a weekly shiur has been instituted for learning
the Or HaChaim HaKodosh every Shabbos.
Danger: Firecrackers
To the Editor:
As Purim approaches I would like to warn old and young alike
about the use of firecrackers and more dangerous things as
well by recounting what happened to us last year.

Physical Violence and Verbal Violence
Last week at Erez Crossing a Palestinian laborer from Gaza
was crushed to death trying to pass through to work in Israel
for the day. 15,000 Palestinians were waiting to pass through
that gate at the time and the conditions were horrible. The
lines move very slowly and even those who arrive very early
are not assured of getting through in a reasonable amount of
time.
