To help Daf Yomi learners proceed through maseches Chulin,
a lecture and a live shechitoh demonstration will
be held this motzei Shabbos in Jerusalem at Cheftzadi
Halls (Heichalei Hasimcha) on Yirmiyohu Street, the latest in
a series of lectures and live demonstrations organized by
Meoros HaDaf HaYomi to illustrate the halochos of
treifos covered in the upcoming Daf Yomi
sugyos.
The first such demonstration was held at Beis Hamedrash
Hamerkazi deChassidei Belz in Bnei Brak, where the
shechitoh of a goat and a chicken was accompanied by a
thorough explanation of the entire shechitoh and
bedikoh process by HaRav Yishai Mordechai Mendel, one
of the maggidei shiur at the beis medrash who
has been active in areas of meat kashrus for years. The
display was projected on a large screen from start to finish
to allow the audience to view the organs clearly.
Over 1,000 Daf Yomi learners--avreichim, maggidei
shiur and baalei batim--participated in a similar
event held at the Merkaz Hapayis community center in Bnei
Brak's Ramat Elchonon neighborhood, which was filled to
capacity with Daf HaYomi participants and maggidei
shiur from the entire Dan Region. HaRav Amitai Ben David,
author of Sichas Chulin, led a presentation on
treifos found in both animals and birds. Following an
introductory explanation, a sheep was shechted onsite
and its organs were shown to the audience to illustrate the
explanations given.
Due to the success of the events, Meoros HaDaf HaYomi
arranged another presentation, also conducted by HaRav Ben
David, in Modi'in Illit's Achuzat Brachfeld on motzei
Shabbos Mishpotim. Following the shechitoh of a
goat, all of the bedikos were performed along with a
practical demonstration of the koshering process.
Participants left the events spiritually charged and equipped
with important tools to apply to the upcoming parts of
Chulin. Besides the event to be held in Jerusalem on
motzei Shabbos, a lecture is also scheduled to take
place in Haifa on Tuesday, 8 Adar at the hall of Talmud Torah
Tiferes Moshe Seret-Vizhnitz at Rechov Hanegev 41.
