US Receptive to Disengagement

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's unilateral
disengagement proposals, including plans to vacate
settlements in the Gaza Strip, were well received in
Washington. However Washington does not want a thickening of
West Bank settlements in response.
US Stock Market Rise Helps Israel

According to Israeli economists, a 10 percent rise on the US
NASDAQ stock market average adds 0.2 percent to Israel's GDP,
as reported in Globes. NASDAQ has risen 21.5 percent
in the six months since August 2003. In accordance with this
formula the bull market in the US will add at least an
additional 0.5 percent to Israel's GDP in 2004 regardless of
other factors.
New Premises For HaRav Nissim Karelitz's Beis Din In Bnei
Brak

Spacious new premises for the Beis Din headed by HaRav Nissim
Karelitz were dedicated at an inspiring and impressive
gathering that was attended by gedolei Yisroel. Scores
of HaRav Karleitz's talmidim, who serve as rabbonim
and dayonim in Torah communities all over Eretz
Yisroel were also present, as were the members of the Beis
Din.
Increase Support for Jerusalem's Mikvas

Bnei Brak Budget Cuts

Knesset Education Committee Continues to Lash Out at

MKs Rabbi Moshe Gafni (United Torah Jewry) and Meshulam
Nehari (Shas), both members of the Knesset Education
Committee, are considering how to respond to inappropriate
conduct by Committee Chairman MK Ilan Shalgi (Shinui), who
they say acts abusively toward the chareidi education system,
seeking every opportunity to lash out at it.
Tula Meeting of the Conference Of European Rabbis

From the 26th to the 29th of January, a group of Russian
rabbis gathered for a conference in Tula, a three-hour drive
south of Moscow. The Rabbis represent communities in a 5,000
square mile radius, from St. Petersburg in the west, to
Irkutzk in the east.
Final Decision on Expansion of Har Hamenuchos Postponed

The City of Jerusalem's Local Construction and Planning
Committee has postponed a decision on the expansion of the
Har Hamenuchos Cemetery in Givat Shaul.

employees, including 350 teachers, are suspected of having
received fictitious academic degrees from the Israeli branch
of the British University of Humberside.
