Following a difficult adjustment period, Line 54 to
Jerusalem's Neveh Yaakov East is operating to the
satisfaction of neighborhood residents.
Line 54 maintains tznius standards and a route
tailored to the demands of Neveh Yaakov East residents. The
line was inaugurated a few months ago after a long period of
negotiations between the neighborhood's transportation
committee, which is backed by the local rabbonim, and Egged's
route managers in Jerusalem.
The line now connects Neveh Yaakov East with chareidi
commercial centers and most event halls, which has led many
young couples to opt to purchase apartments in Neveh Yaakov
instead of leaving Jerusalem for outlying communities.
The initial period of operation brought numerous complaints
about irregularities, failures to abide by the schedule,
overcrowded buses and unseemly behavior by drivers toward
passengers. After these complaints were brought to the
attention of Egged heads in Jerusalem the improvement was
noticeable.
The Neveh Yaakov Mizrach Transportation Committee asked
Yated Ne'eman to relate its thanks and appreciation to
the Jerusalem route directors, particularly Mr. Yossi
Chachkes, Mr. Chalifah and Mr. Vilovitz, as well as regional
supervisor Mr. Chayo Nissim for his cooperation and for their
efforts to find a suitable solution to problems and
complaints and to improve the line's schedule.
