Users of Unapproved Cell Phones May Not be Able to Enroll
Their Children in Educational Institutions
Maran HaRav Yosef Sholom Eliashiv shlita announced
that parents who use unapproved cell phones, which have been
known to cause numerous stumbling-blocks, may not be able to
enroll their children at talmudei Torah, girls'
schools, girls' seminars and other educational institutions
around the country.
The Jewish community of Italy and other communities,
university scholars and Jewish organizations including the
Anti-Defamation League are up in arms against a new book by
Prof. Ariel Toaff of Bar-Ilan University titled Bloody
Passovers: The Jews of Europe and Ritual Murders.

A Vienna court sentenced a 24-year-old Croatian man to 15
months imprisonment for a rampage that caused an estimated
150,000 euro ($200,000) in damage to a Jewish school in the
city. The incident was considered the worst antisemitic
attack in Austria since the early 1980s.
Following the harsh winter weather in the North, two holes
formed in the sidewalks of Tzfat, revealing remnants of homes
destroyed in the earthquake that struck the city in 5697
(1937). The street had to be closed to vehicle traffic, and
even pedestrian traffic was restricted near the site.
Several prominent members of an extreme right nationalist
faction in Holland called the New Right Party resigned in
protest over the publication of an antisemitic article by one
of the party leaders.
Of the 21,000 people who were recognized by official
institutions for saving Jews during the Holocaust, only 60
were Muslims, mostly from Bosnia and Albania, and not a
single Arab. Dr. Robert Satloff, director of the Washington
Institute for Near East Policy, researched the topic and
wants to correct this mistaken impression.
Berlin Holocaust Memorial Regularly Defaced Anonymous vandals desecrate the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin

incidents after a German newspaper ran photos of piles of
trash heaped on the concrete slabs, in additional to other
acts of vandalism.
During his short stay in Eretz Yisroel recently, New York
Mayor Michael Bloomberg found time, together with his host
and colleague Jerusalem Mayor Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky, to visit
Yad Sarah, where the two leaders volunteered to assemble an
aluminum walker. Onlookers noted the billionaire mayor's high
level of "proficiency" in inserting the screws and handling
tools. Chaim LaYeled Finishes Construction of Hostel for Lung and
Psoriasis Patients Chaim LaYeled, which provides assistance for the treatment of
cystic fibrosis and lung diseases, has completed the
construction of a luxurious hostel on the shores of the Dead
Sea and is currently providing the facility with equipment
and interior furnishings. Hamashbir Letzarchan Expands Activity in Chareidi
Sector The country's largest department store, now called Hamashbir
Letzarchan Hachadash, plans to deepen its ties to and
activity in the chareidi sector. With 27 outlets (21
department stores and five concept stores), the chain was
founded in 1974 as Hamashbir Letzarchan Ltd. and belonged to
the Co-op until it folded.
