Israel announced new building projects in Yehuda and Shomron and the United States did not issue a protest.
The State of Israel is opening its gates to non-Jewish
children through a regulation Interior Minister Avraham Poraz
is formulating. Recently Poraz decided to allow children
officially defined as non-Jewish to immigrate if one of their
parents already residing in Israel married a Jewish spouse.
While the media constantly focuses on alleged irregularities
in the administration of Torah institutions, reports that
turn out to be unfounded and inciting, a highly critical
report on corruption at Israeli universities received minimal
coverage in the mainstream press.
The City of Beit Shemesh agreed to the majority of requests
by chareidi directors of educational institutions and United
Torah Jewry city councilmen to allocate classrooms and other
facilities in various neighborhoods, based on the needs of
the institutions and the composition of the neighborhoods. At
a press conference called by Mayor Daniel Vaknin, a list of
the new allocations was released, including 161 classrooms
designated for the chareidi sector, compared to just 40 new
classrooms for national-religious and secular schools.
Recently yeshiva managers took part in two working meetings
with chareidi MKs and Betzedek Director Attorney Rabbi
Mordechai Green at the offices of the Association of Yeshiva
Managers.

religious institutions in Haifa. When Mayor Yonah Yahav
honored his request, Shinui city councilors objected
strongly, storming out of the City Finance Committee meeting
following the reduction of the cut. Substantial Reduction in Traffic Accidents in Bnei
Brak The number of traffic accidents in Bnei Brak was down
significantly in the first half of 2004, according to a
report prepared by Superintendent Eitan Paamon of the Traffic

The State Comptroller published a scathing report of widespread abuses in the research budgets of Israel's major universities. The combined research budgets of these institutions is over NIS 600 million -- more than the total government support for yeshivas altogether. The total budget of the universities is about ten times greater at some NIS 6 billion.
