Substantial Reduction in Traffic Accidents in Bnei

The number of traffic accidents in Bnei Brak was down
significantly in the first half of 2004, according to a
report prepared by Superintendent Eitan Paamon of the Traffic
Department of Tel Aviv District Police.
The report notes a general decline in the number of traffic
accidents in the district, in contrast to the situation
nationwide. The number of accidents was down from 2,763
between January and June of 2003 to 2,630 during the same
period this year, while the number of people hurt in traffic
accidents was down from 4,348 to 3,830.
In addition to the reduction in the number of accidents
throughout the district, the report notes a substantial
reduction in the number of serious accidents in Bnei Brak,
Tel Aviv and Holon. In Bnei Brak, besiyata deShmaya,
the number of accidents dropped from 44 in 2003 to 30 in
2004. The number of fatal accidents remained the same, with
two each year, although they took place on the intercity road
passing through the city. Serious accidents fell from nine to
zero while the number of light accidents went from 33 to
28.
Accidents involving bicycles rose from six to ten in the
light-accident category, while the number of serious
accidents went from one to zero. The number of fatal
accidents involving bike riders remained zero.
