Yemenite Refugees Hoping to Celebrate Pesach in Their Own
Homes
The 45 Jews living in al-Salam in Yemen's Sa'ada province are
still afraid to return to their village after fleeing for
their lives following death threats. A local newspaper
reports that those Jews celebrated Purim in a resort town in
the north of the province of Tzana, where security
arrangements are far better.
Ukrainian authorities notified Vice Prime Minister Shimon
Peres that the development work for a high-rise building on
the grounds of the ancient Jewish cemetery in Uman, the
burial place of Rebbe Nachman of Breslav, would cease
immediately.
An anti-smoking campaign was held during Purim to prevent
boys and teenagers from picking up the habit.
On Purim many parents overlook the use of accessories and
substances that they keep far away from their children during
the rest of the year, thinking that no harm will come to them
during such a short period of time of supervised mischief.
The government earmarked a sum of NIS 103 million ($24

sponsored bill vesting the rabbinical botei din with
the authority to hear monetary cases with the consent of both
parties, and to hand down decisions. The law has not yet been
passed in the Ministerial Legislating Committee due to
disputes among the ministers.
