15 Years Since Bombing of Israeli Embassy in Buenos
Aires
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
Last Friday the Jewish community of Buenos Aires held a
ceremony to mark the 15th anniversary of the terror attack on
the Israeli embassy in the city. Twenty-nine people were
killed in the bombing, including embassy workers and
passersby, and hundreds of Argentineans and Israelis were
injured.
The embassy held a memorial ceremony at the monument situated
at the site of the attack. Argentina's Foreign Minister and
Education Minister were on hand for the event, along with the
Mayor of Buenos Aires, Israeli diplomats who survived the
attack or lost loved ones, members of the Jewish community,
the Director of the Foreign Ministry and Israeli ambassadors
from other Latin American countries.
Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni sent a statement saying
that Israel is still committed to hunting down those
responsible for the bloody attack on the embassy and the AMIA
bombing two years later — the biggest attacks in the
world against Israeli and Jewish targets. She expressed
confidence that the Argentinean government will not rest
until the perpetrators are brought to justice.
