Culture Organization Funding Withheld Due to
Discriminatory Field Reporting
By Eliezer Rauchberger
The Knesset Finance Committee held another fiery meeting over
the scandalous delays in transferring 2005 budget funds for
Torah culture organizations. During the meeting Attorney
Amnon De Hartoch, appointed by the Justice Ministry to
formulate the criteria for granting support funding to
organizations, unabashedly admitted that he is demanding the
results of the Education Ministry's field checks of Torah
organizations but not of other cultural organizations or of

Spreading Kedushoh to All Areas of Life
The story goes that when the first group of shochetim
sent by Shearis Yisroel to South America came back to Eretz
Yisroel, one of their first moves was to visit the rabbonim
with a report of their work. Nothing of the sort had been
done up to then by a mehadrin hashgochoh: to go into a
non-Jewish meat factory overseas and shecht meat
according to the highest mehadrin standard.
A Truly Schwer Rambam: Medieval Science and Modern Man
by Mordecai Plaut
Ahavas Hashem is one of the six constant mitzvos. It is an
obligation upon every Jew, all the time. In addition we have
the additional mitzvah of Krias Shema which includes
as a prominent feature, in its third verse, the mention of
this obligation twice a day: in the morning and in the
evening. We begin and end each day with a recitation of the
mitzvah that we have to love Hashem.

Raising children is mentally enriching for mothers and

Michael Merzenich at the University of California, San

with uniquely motivated learning. Having a baby is "a
revolution for the brain," Dr. Merzenich says.
Out of the Blue
by C. Ofek
At five thirty in the morning, the Warsaw Ghetto was
surrounded by S.S. troops. Sheindel looked apprehensively at
her two little boys sleeping restlessly on the floor of the
bunker. Where could she hide them from the Nazi beasts? If
only Hillel her husband were here, they could have made the
decision together; as he had many friends on the Aryan side.
He had been carted off several weeks ago, and had not
returned. Sheindel knew that her time was running out.
