An emergency meeting was held at Zeviehl Hall last Thursday
(10 Iyar) to protest the destruction of the Jerusalem kashrus
department. The gathering, organized at the behest of
maranan verabonon, was a great act of kiddush
Hashem and proof all streams of the chareidi public are
deeply disturbed over the damage done to the Jerusalem
Rabbinate through the takeover of the Religious Affairs
Council by Likud Party officials.
Today it's history. Then, in January 1952, Cherut—the
precursor to the Likud Party—waged a tough battle
against Mapai, which wanted to get restitution payments from
Germany. Later, in March 1960, Prime Minister Ben Gurion met
with West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer at the Waldorf-
Astoria Hotel in New York. That meeting led to diplomatic
relations in 1965, 40 years ago. Prime Minister's Office director-general Ilan Cohen blamed
political leaders of Gush Katif for creating "confusion and
denial" among settlers and preventing pragmatic dialogue
about the "day after." However, Attorney Yitzhak Meiron, a
representative of the settlers, said that the relocation
solutions being offered were only theoretical and cannot work
out in practice.

bill was passed 24 to 6.
We are pleased to announce to the public at large that as a

institutions and public places can receive, free of charge,
the new Chofetz Chaim binder recently published by Notzrei
Loshon, which is divided into two halochos per page for each
day.
High Court President Accused of Approving Appointments
Without Tenders Civil Service Commissioner Shmuel Hollander claims that High
Court President Aharon Barak approved the appointment of
dozens of employees needed to man Hamerkaz Lenihul Tikim (the
Center for File Management, known as the "Manat")
without a public tender, as required by the law and Civil
Service regulations.
The director-general of the Education Ministry agreed to a
demand by Betzedek in a High Court pre-petition against
legislation passed in 5764 that entitles only teachers who
are members of the Teachers' Union or the Organization of
Upper-Grade Teachers to request grants and fee reimbursements
for advanced training courses and study programs.
Hatzofeh Article Against Gedolei Yisroel The brazen remarks against gedolei Yisroel published
in Hatzofeh two weeks ago, "are not appropriate for
handling in the criminal sphere and do not constitute a
criminal violation of the law," Justice Minister Livni told
the Knesset plenum, quoting a response by Attorney-General
Mani Mazuz to a complaint filed by MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni
against Hatzofeh and the writer who penned the highly
objectionable article.
On Writing Biographies of Gedolim
Our biographies of gedolim remain one of our most
popular features. Our attempts to capture in a few short
pages something of the greatness of our Torah leaders
provides inspirational reading that many of our readers find
enjoyable. Obvious Truths Are Easily Overlooked
Some acquaintances of mine suggested that during the period
of Sefiras Ha'omer it is not only fitting but also
worthwhile to publish an article about prevalent problems of
bein odom lechavero, difficulties that are encountered
in interpersonal relations.
