Anger and Biting Criticism Dominate Reactions to New
Government
Religious Lobby Ousts NRP for Joining Shinui
by M. Plaut and Eliezer Rauchberger
There was a sharp response from many quarters to the
announcement that the Likud signed coalition deals with both
Shinui and the National Religious Party (NRP) giving Prime
Minister Ariel Sharon the minimum 61 MKs needed to form a
governing coalition.
Snowstorm Closes Much of Yerushalayim
Yeshivas Continue Learning
by M. Plaut and Yated Ne'eman Staff
Heavy snow closed down much of Yerushalayim on Tuesday, with
schools and chadorim shut in the city and the
surrounding area after some 20cm fell overnight and continued
into the morning. In yeshiva gedolah, almost all the
talmidim sleep in dormitories so they continued as
usual. Many yeshiva ketanohs also asked their
talmidim to sleep over so that learning can continue
as usual.
Rav Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz: "Talmidim from Abroad
Currently in Eretz Yisroel Should Let Their Parents Know
Everyone Will be Safe."
by A. Cohen
"All talmidim from abroad currently staying in Eretz
Yisroel should let their parents know that everyone will be
safe. For when children stay in Eretz Yisroel occupied with
Hashem's Torah this is the best, most secure shelter to
defend and save the entire world, and only through those
engaged in Torah will rescue and salvation come," said HaRav
Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz during a talk he gave to bnei
Torah from abroad at Yeshivas Daromah in Bnei Brak.
Agudath Israel: End of New York Kosher Laws "Disappointing
and Dangerous"
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
The United States Supreme Court's refusal to hear an appeal
of a federal Court of Appeals decision that New York State's
118-year-old "kosher law" is unconstitutional, is
"disappointing and dangerous," according to Agudath Israel of
America, and "a harbinger of harm to the unsuspecting
consumer."
On Statute Before High Court, Agudah Stands Apart
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
As the United States Supreme Court considers a constitutional
challenge to a Texas law that prohibits acts considered
immoral by the Torah and much of the American public, Agudath
Israel of America, has filed a "friend of the court"
brief.
Analysis of Election Results Shows Declines Only Among Non-
Chareidi Voters
by N. Ze'evi
United Torah Jewry can certainly be pleased with its ability
to retain its position while slightly increasing its overall
number of votes. On the other hand, the party was not
particularly successful in repeating its performance of the
summer of 5759.

by Betzalel Kahn

Yisroel of America in Jerusalem last week drew dramatic
visits by HaRav Aharon Leib Steinman, HaRav Shmuel Auerbach,

OPINION &
COMMENT
The NRP Sells Out
We do not look for our salvation to the government of Israel.
It is not this or that party or politician or back room deal
that guarantees the future of Torah learning. It is the
promise of Hashem that it will not be forgotten from Israel
that is our insurance against the attacks from all sides. The
Torah of Israel protects the people of Israel, and it can
also protect itself.

Fear
by A. Ross, M.Ed.
Fear is something felt by everyone at some time or other.
Since the ghastly incident of the Twin Towers, fear has
stalked a large percentage of the world population. The fear
can be rational or irrational. Frequently, it is stark
terror, which is very difficult to fight, and can lead to
breakdown.
