Judith Shoshanna Greenbaum, Hy"d

description of the lives and last moments of some of the

Observations: OU Gives Kashrus Certification to Heter
Mechirah Products
by Betzalel Kahn
The American Orthodox Union (Union of Orthodox Congregations
of America -- the "OU") kashrus certifier has approved the use
of spices grown at Kibbutz Sedeh Eliahu in the Beit She'an
Valley, a kibbutz whose agricultural products became a focus
point of discussions on issurei sefichin during
Shevi'is after its fields were sold through the Chief
Rabbinate's questionable heter mechirah.
Otzar Beis Din Grape Juice Distributed
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
Very soon, the filling of the bottles of the first batch of
grape juice of the Otzar Beis Din of HaRav Nissim Karelitz
will be completed. The distribution will begin very shortly at
depots all over the country, enabling mitzvah observant Jews
everywhere to merit to partake of produce which is sanctified
with kedushas shevi'is.
Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of America Issue an Urgent Call for
Teshuva and Tefilloh
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
In response to the escalating violence against Jews in Eretz
Yisroel, the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Agudath Israel of
America has issued an urgent call for Jews everywhere to "gird
and strengthen" themselves in teshuva and tefilloh
and to embrace a number of undertakings in the realms of
tefilloh, tzedaka, limud Torah and mitzvos bein odom
lechavero. The specific undertakings were formulated at an
August 14 meeting of the Moetzes.
Palestinian Intifadah Dead include Their Own Victims
by M Plaut and Yated Ne'eman Staff
The Palestinian counts of their dead in their own Al Aqsa
intifadah include those they killed themselves. Also,
Palestinian spokesman have no compunction about calling for
"revenge" on Israel for Palestinian killing.
HaRav Avrohom Yaakov Pam zt"l
by S. Bruchi, D. Rubinowitz and Yated Ne'eman Staff
On Friday 28 Av, tens of thousands of bereft Torah-loyal Jews,
headed by maronan verabonan, the gedolei haTorah
vehaChassidus, accompanied HaRav Yaakov HaKohen Pam,
zt"l, on his last earthly journey. HaRav Pam was the
rosh yeshiva of Torah VoDaas. One of the great marbitzei
Torah in the United States, he produced tens of thousands
of students.
Glimpses of a Godol
by Moshe Rockove
HaRav Avraham Yaakov Hacohen Pam zt'l was born in
Lithuania 88 years ago. His father was a rov and an
outstanding talmid chochom. He learned in the famed
Kodshim Kollel in Radin where he was a chavrusa of
HaRav Elchonon Wassermann.
Summer Camp for Children with Cancer
by M. Kamilar
125 children stricken with cancer just returned from an 11-
day tour of Israel and Holland with Zichron Menachem
(www.zichronmenachem.org), an Israeli association for the
support of children with cancer and their families. They
organize ongoing programs and year-round events, including
three camps a year -- winter, spring and summer.
OPINION &
COMMENT
Have We Always Dealt with Integrity?
HaRav Avrohom Pam, zt"l, made it very clear that he did
not want any hespedim said about him. It is perhaps not
too presumptuous to suggest that he would have wanted a
discussion of honesty in all one's dealings, since this is a
topic that was close to his heart and that he even discussed
publicly, at great personal sacrifice, last winter at the
annual convention of Agudas Yisroel of America.

Part III
Shyness is a problem that affects a large percentage of the
population. With love, understanding, and a close parent-child
relationship, children can be taught to overcome many of their
anxieties.

Additional Luach Information
The last day for Kiddush Levonoh -- Elul
One can say Kiddush Levonoh in the entire world until
Monday, the eve of 15 Elul (September 4), at 4:07 A.M.,
according to the Summer Clock, Israeli time, about a half an
hour before the alos hashachar. In most of Europe we
can say Kiddush Levonoh until 3:07 A.M., in New York
until 9:07 P.M., September 3, and in west U.S.A. and Canada it
is impossible to say a berochoh on this night since the
final time is before the tzeis hakochovim, and for them
the final time is actually the entire Motzei Shabbos,
the eve of 14 Elul.
The astronomical full moon is at 12:44 A.M., three hours and
twenty-three minutes before the nigud emtzo'i and nine
hours and one minute earlier than the full fifteen days from
the molad. It seems that after the nigud emtzo'i
we should not make a berochoh with shem and
malchus.
