Blessed Increase in Torah Studiers
With the new yeshiva year beginning on Rosh Chodesh Elul, the numbers of those studying Torah in yeshiva in Eretz Yisroel increase, kein yirbu.
In the battle for the sanctity of Shabbos and against the secularization of the Holy City, the Vaad HaRabbonim for Kedushas haShabbos have issued an urgent call expressing the pain of the Shabbos observant public against the severe and terrible increase of desecration of Shabbos in Jerusalem by money-grubber initiators who are hostile to the sanctity of Shabbos and seek to violate it publicly. This is in light of the fact that the Jerusalem municipality and its mayor and all those responsible for enforcing city bylaws are doing nothing to prevent the secular initiatives from gaining momentum.

The historic pilgrimage of a delegation of Dirshu rabbonim to the gravesite of the Chofetz Chaim will imminently set forth. The purpose is to pray for the myriads of devotees of the Daf Hayomi BeHalacha, and the Dirshu organization is prepared to deal with tens of thousands of more people interested in joining this study regimen of daily halachic study so that their names will be included in the lists of members being prayed for at this site several days before Rosh Hashana when the Books of Life and Death will be opened in Heaven and all will pass before the Heavenly Tribunal for judgment.

Bereft of parents and home, these children had nowhere to turn — until the Skulener Rebbe stepped into the picture. He took them into his home and treated them as though they were his own children, caring for both their physical and spiritual needs.

We were able to ask some penetrating questions and to get frank answers.
Becoming Mentschen or Becoming Western?
by Mordecai Plaut
Every year the Israeli media in this season is full of self-congratulatory, heartwarming articles about the opening of the new secular school year. Education is certainly a good thing, isn't it?
Education is certainly a good thing - at least compared to the alternatives.
Teshuvoh and Prayer
by HaRav Sholom Schwadron zt"l
The Rambam writes: "It is possible for a person to commit a sin, or many sins, until he gives his account before the True Judge, and that the punishment for these sins, committed of his own volition and knowledge, is to prevent him from doing teshuvoh and to deny him permission to undo his wickedness, in order that he will die and be destroyed because of the sins he committed. That is what HaKodosh Boruch Hu said through Yeshayohu, `The heart of this people became fat . . . '
