Agricultural Minister Driving Up Vegetable Prices for Shmitta-Observant Consumers

Agriculture Minister Shalom Simhon began to execute his threat that if the Chief Rabbinate does not make use of the heter mechirah in every city around the country, the Agriculture Ministry would not allow the import of agricultural produce during the Shmittah year, thereby causing shortages and driving up prices.

Haifa Mall Opens on Shabbos

The Haifa Mall opened for business on Shabbos despite various attempts by chareidi representatives to prevent the new breach, which is liable to set a precedent. UTJ's Haifa representative, Councilman Rabbi Chaim Williger, said that the move upsets the status quo and as such he contacted Mayor Yonah Yahav, asking him to dispatch inspectors and issue fines to enforce the city ordinances.
High Court Upholds Education Ministry Stance to Fund Yeshivos Ketanos as "Exempt" Institutions Until January

Following a delay since last Thursday 10 Cheshvan when the High Court held a hearing on the budget for yeshivos ketanos, this week the Court, spurred on by a letter from the General Solicitor, decided to accept the Education Ministry's stance to provide the yeshivos ketanos funding as "exempt institutions" until January.
HaRav Aharon Taussig zt"l

Jerusalem lost one of its great citizens with the histalkus of HaRav Aharon Taussig zt"l, the eldest son of the Beis Yisroel of Mattersdorf, who was a remnant of the previous generation of Torah greats, and a member of the Mattersdorf rabbinical family who was acquainted with the prewar generation of gedolei Torah in Hungary.

The individuals who are behind the unceasing harassment, whether they belong to the government, the academic world or the legal system, are quite open in discussing their aims. They cannot bear witnessing the blossoming of the Torah world and seeing how thousands of families devote their lives to Torah.
