HaRav Aharon Taussig zt"l

By Yechiel Sever

Jerusalem lost one of its great citizens with the histalkus of HaRav Aharon Taussig zt"l, the eldest son of the Beis Yisroel of Mattersdorf, who was a remnant of the previous generation of Torah greats, and a member of the Mattersdorf rabbinical family who was acquainted with the prewar generation of gedolei Torah in Hungary.

The levaya was held last Tuesday, 11 Cheshvan, setting out from Beis Halvayos Shamgar to the Mattersdorf Beis Medrash, in Meah Shearim that was founded by his father. A large crowd, including gedolei Torah and admorim, took part in the procession.

The deceased was eulogized by HaRav Avrohom Yitzchok Ulman, a member of the Badatz Eida Chareidis; HaRav Yehoshua Karlinsky, rov of Beis Medrash Be'er Avrohom in Givat Shaul; his brother's sons, HaRav Shmuel Taussig, the admor of Toldos Shmuel, HaRav Aharon Taussig, author of Kedushas Einayim, and HaRav Yisroel Taussig, the admor of Mattersdorf; his son-in-law, HaRav Yitzchok Weider, the av beis din in Be'er Sheva; and his son, HaRav Gedaliah Taussig, a ram at Yeshivas Vishnitz in Bnei Brak. They spoke of the great loss to the distinguished family and to the entire generation, describing how he would rise in the middle of the night, immerse himself in the mikveh and study Torah with tremendous hasmodoh until daybreak, devoting up to 18 hours a day learning, even in his elderly years.
