Cease-Fire in Gaza
A cease-fire in Gaza began at 06:00 Sunday, November 26. PA
Chairman Abbas told Prime Minister Olmert that all
Palestinian organizations have committed to it and said that
he expects that Israel will halt its military activity in the
Gaza Strip in response and will withdraw its forces from the
Strip.
Thursday night's plenary session began with a moving audio-
visual presentation dedicated to the devastating fire that
Camp Agudah suffered this past summer, and the impressive
efforts that, with Hashem's help, helped the camp recover in
time to provide campers a truly memorable summer. Rabbi Meir
Frischman, the camp director, provided a moving and inspiring
chronicle of the events.
The Jewish neighborhoods of Sarcelles north of Paris were
placed on alert by the Mayor based on information that
members of the right-wing organization Boulogne Boys were
headed to the town to exact revenge against Jews after a
policeman killed one of their members while saving the life
of a young Jew from a mob late last week.
Jerusalem Mayor Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky proposed a law on 28
Cheshvan that would authorize the Jerusalem City Council to
prevent events considered offensive to local residents from
taking place in the city.
A recent "scoop" about chareidim consisted of sensationalist
headlines that the diabetes rate among the chareidi
population is thirty per cent more than that of the general
population. Not only is the story wrong, but the truth is
precisely the opposite!
Selling Holiness to a Jaded World
Just as Israel's (and Lebanon's) tourist industry was
beginning to get back onto its feet after a multi-year slump,
the war in Lebanon last summer set it back. The fighting
caused wholesale cancellations, and the Ministry of Tourism
was worried about the industry it is charged with promoting.
Things have recovered since the depths of the fighting, but
the Ministry wants to do better. Ma'amad Har Sinai on a Daily Basis
"`And you shall make them known to your children and to your
children's children.' Afterwards it is written: `the day you
stood before Hashem your G-d at Horeiv' (Devorim 4:9-
10). Just as at Mount Sinai there was awe and fear, shaking
and trembling (as it is written `the people saw and trembled'
— Rashi), so too regarding learning Torah there should
be awe and fear, shaking and trembling.
WEIGHING IN
Chaya awoke early Friday and mumbled Modeh Ani with a yawn.
Sitting up, she washed her hands and heaved herself out of
bed to begin her day.
ASK THE SHADCHAN Dear Shadchante,
You had a lot of guts to discuss emotional stability. It
would greatly benefit the public if you would further open
the discussion to include mental health and
shidduchim. I know every situation is different and
great poskim must be consulted but... Is there any way
of writing a Layman's Guide to what may be related re mental
health problems?
