IDF Will Continue to Operate in Gaza
Senior Israeli officials said this week that the IDF could
not stop operating in Gaza, although it will not take control
and reoccupy the area. Defense Minister Amir Peretz said
Tuesday that such operations are necessary to stop terror
organizations from further arming themselves and to keep them
from attacking Israeli citizens.
The Knesset plenum defeated two no-confidence motions on
Monday, one submitted by the Likud on weapons smuggling along
the Philadelphi Route, and the other submitted by UTJ,
HaIchud HaLeumi and the NRP on rising poverty in Israel.
Due to the crowded conditions in the women's section of the
Kosel Maarovi during the holiday tefillos, Jerusalem
Mayor Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky has asked the Prime Minister's
Office to accelerate the pace of the construction work at the
Western Wall Plaza, which is slated to add space for
thousands of women.

disturbed over plans for an abominable event to take place in
the holy city of Jerusalem — "the King's palace"

advertising campaign to encourage new immigrants from the
former Soviet Union who have reached marriage age to open a
file at the nearest Rabbinate beis din to verify their
Jewish status as soon as possible regardless of their
immediate marriage plans.
"The Jewish people has an eternal constitution, Toras
Yisroel, which has protected the Jewish people throughout
its exiles," said MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni during a Knesset
Constitution Committee meeting. He said the chareidi sector
is opposed to the idea of a state constitution in principle,
but said that if it is carried out with consent it can be
done.
A standing-room-only crowd packed Yerushalayim's Heichal
Shmuel shul in Mattersdorf this week, participating in a Yom
Iyun about the halachic status of checks sponsored by Kollel
Choshen Mishpot-Ohel Yosef (which learns in the shul
throughout the year) and its Nesivos Chaim Beis Din.
The City of Bnei Brak, based on instructions from Mayor Rabbi
Yissochor Frankentahl, is clearing schach separately
from the trash to avoid bizui mitzvah.
Let's Have Change for the Better
Government change is in the air. Avigdor Lieberman is making
it a central issue as he joins the government, and even Prime
Minister Olmert has accepted the principle that there should
be some change, although he has not accepted the changes that
