Let's Have Change for the Better

Government change is in the air. Avigdor Lieberman is making it a central issue as he joins the government, and even Prime Minister Olmert has accepted the principle that there should be some change, although he has not accepted the changes that Lieberman wants to make.

In the second perek of Ovos, we learn about how Rabbon Yochonon ben Zakkai asked his talmidim to go out and find the best, most direct path that a person should adopt in life. To The Editor:

Rabbi Plaut's article (4 Oct.) on the life of Jews in the smaller Jewish communities in Germany before the war was a welcome reminder of the world of simple, if not particularly learned, piety of which most readers were probably completely unaware. As he writes their "loyalty to Jewish tradition was very deep-rooted."

The North Korean Nuclear Test

To The Editor:

The North Korean nuclear test ("Atomic Technology is Threatening the World," 28 Tishrei) reminded one of the warning of Rav Saadia Nachmani zt"l. He predicted the Six Day War to the day, three days before it happened while living in Morocco, and the Yom Kippur War to the month.
