An earthquake struck last Sunday in the middle of the ocean
off Indonesia. It measured 8.9 on the Richter scale, larger
than any earthquake in the world over the past 40 years since
1964. Since it took place in the middle of the water, the
quake itself caused little damage. However the force set off
by the huge tremor set off devastating tidal waves (tsunami)
that killed at least 40,000 people. The final toll is not yet
known as we go to press on Tuesday, but it is expected to
reach even beyond 50,000.
Bank of Israel Governor David Klein cut the interest rate by
0.2 percentage points bringing the central bank's prime

history. In his statement yesterday on monetary policy for
January 2005, Klein explained that it was possible to reduce
the rate because "the expected rate of inflation next year is
within the range of the government's target of price
stability, that is, 1-3 percent."

Jews, to stop the rapid increase of the Jewish population.
Until now, Germany has encouraged Jewish immigration in order

immigrated to Germany from Russia and the Ukraine, renewing
the Jewish presence in the country despite their detachment
from Yiddishkeit.

Antisemitism Can be Managed, but not Eliminated
If a Jew wants to solve the problem of antisemitism he must
commit some kind of suicide — either physical or at
least cultural. Antisemitism is part of the lot of the Jew,
and it will be around as long as the exile.
Chapters in Chinuch from HaRav Dessler: About the Sanctity

In two letters dealing with the subject of education, Maran's

chinuch against the light of Chazal's teachings, and
to be suspicious of everything smacking of modern
research.
A Peaceful Night in Auschwitz
It's 2:30 in the morning. I can't sleep. Someone took the
pillow I like. I'll just add some hot water to my lemon tea.
I like it piping hot.
