HaRav Ezriel Auerbach, a member of Badatz Shearis Yisroel and
rov of Kehillas Chanichei Hayeshivos in Jerusalem's Bayit
Vegan neighborhood, publicized a letter in support of the
shechitoh arrangements under Shearis Yisroel
supervision, in which he wrote that they meet the highest
standards of bnei Torah. HaRav Auerbach notes that
even Maran HaRav Eliashiv voiced his satisfaction following
positive reports on the shechitoh system and was
disconcerted "by those who organize another shechitoh
that could destroy the holy Shearis Yisroel enterprise."
Shearis Yisroel was founded by Rabbenu HaRav Shach
zt"l to provide broad community and kashrus services
and to buttress the Torah world as an organized
kehilloh with all of the institutions essential to a
Torah community. To this day, Shearis Yisroel has been under
the guidance and direction of maranan verabonon gedolei
Yisroel shlita.
HaRav Shach appointed HaRav Chaim Shaul Karelitz as
Gavad of Shearis Yisroel and ylct"a HaRav Tzvi
Weber, HaRav Tzvi Friedman and HaRav Eliezer Dunner to serve
with him as members of the beis din and to oversee
kashrus matters.
Several months ago, a decision was made to strengthen and
expand Shearis Yisroel by bringing in HaRav Eliashiv's son-in-
law, HaRav Ezriel Auerbach, and also HaRav Mordechai Gross,
rov of Chanichei Hayeshivos in Bnei Brak, who was among the
founders of the kashrus apparatus. This move, which was made
with the support of gedolei Yisroel including HaRav
Eliashiv was welcomed by bnei Torah everywhere.
Recently, various figures have attempted to hinder Shearis
Yisroel's success by setting up a shechitoh apparatus
that harms the unity surrounding Shearis Yisroel and by
disseminating empty libel on halachic matters.
In response, HaRav Ezriel Auerbach distributed a letter
reading, "To the many people inquiring about various rumors
regarding Shearis Yisroel shechitoh, I hereby issue
the following reply: When I joined Badatz Shearis Yisroel I
was asked to thoroughly check various aspects of the
shechitoh [arrangements] and I did so. I discovered
everything was run in a superlative manner, with great
hiddurim in every detail of the shechitoh
apparatus, including fowl injections, transferring chicken
coops, checking knife blades, checking lungs and tzomes
hagiddim and of course the shechitoh itself, which
is performed with great hiddur by a staff of
shochtim with yiras Shomayim and experience at
their work. The salting, as well, is done in the best
possible manner. I also brought in leading experts with
experience in these matters who highly praised all of the
meticulous, painstaking shechitoh arrangements which
meet the demands of bnei Torah who adhere to every
detail of halochoh.
"Then I reported the results of my inquiries to mori
vechami Maran shlita, who was very satisfied and
added words of chizuk.
"At the same time, he expressed his displeasure over those
who organized another shechitoh aimed at destroying
the holy Shearis Yisroel enterprise founded by Rabban shel
Kol Bnei Hagoloh Rosh Hayeshiva zt"l and I prefer not
to expand on this matter."
