Rabbi Gafni asks Civil Service Commissioner to investigate
Religious Councils as well Degel HaTorah General Secretary MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni
contacted State Civil Service Commissioner Shmuel Hollander
on Monday to demand that he investigate political
appointments by the Prime Minister's Office allegedly made at
religious councils around the country during the past few
months.
There really was an ongoing investigation in Washington about
the leakage of classified information to Israel but it does
not appear to have been the result of actions taken by
Israel.
Prof. Izzi Borovitz, managing director of Arkia, one of the
new controlling owners of El Al and the designated company
chairman, pledged that El Al would preserve the status quo by
not flying on Shabbos.
IDF Personnel Department Commander Gen. Elazar Stern has
decided to expand the army conversion process by opening more
conversion courses for any of the IDF's 7,500 non-Jewish
soldiers who express an interest.
A group of eight economics professors at the Hebrew
University publicized a letter proposing the transfer of the
chareidi population from Jerusalem. The letter, which
addresses the municipality's plan to expand the city
westward, calls for efforts to encourage "the non-working
population to migrate out of the city." Mayor Rabbi Uri
Lupoliansky expressed shock over the professors' remarks,
calling them "racist theories."

Eight economics professors from the Hebrew University signed
a letter suggesting that "nonworking people" should be
"encouraged to migrate" out of Jerusalem. The professors
criticized a general plan, known as the Safdie Plan, for new
housing along the western approaches to Jerusalem, arguing
that it will weaken the city.
