Palestinian Terrorism Agreement Announced

The meetings in Cairo between Yasser Arafat's Fatah and the outlawed Hamas ended with an agreement to cooperate in terror against Israel. According to early reports, the meetings were mediated by Egypt in an attempt to reach some sort of cease fire. Fatah planned to press Hamas in Cairo to stop carrying out terrorist attacks. Later reports said the talks were aimed at limiting attacks to just Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip, not inside Israel proper.

Plans to Build Christian Quarters on Har Hazeisim Graves

The Jerusalem Region Planning and Construction Committee is scheduled to discuss a plan to build a 15- room facility to lodge priests on the Mount of Olives at a site believed to contain Jewish graves from the First Temple Period. Activists from the Association for the Prevention of Grave Desecration are actively engaged in efforts to block the planned construction initiated by the Coptic Church.

Traffic Circles Expected to Turn Golda-Shamgar Road from Thoroughfare into City Street

"Both the City of Jerusalem and the Ministry of Transportation agree the Shamgar-Golda Road, upon its completion, will be closed on Shabbatot and yomim tovim. The traffic circles made all along the road will render it a city street rather than a major thoroughfare," reported HaRav Aryeh Devir following a request by HaRav Yosef Sholom Eliashiv, shlita, to perform a detailed inquiry regarding the road between Ramot and Kiryat Tzanz currently under construction.

Expanding the Boundaries of Kedushoh in Marseille

Although he never sought out his present position, HaRav Shmuel Kohen is truly the right man in the right place at the right time. Son of Rav Yaakov Kohen zt"l, one of the prime builders of Torah in postwar France, Rav Shmuel has for the past two-and-a- half years successfully taken the reins and continued the tremendous strides his father made in the southern French city of Marseille before his tragic death at age 65.
