Multiple Miracles Keep Terror Toll Tepid
by M Plaut and Yated Ne'eman Staff

Despite a number of obvious Palestinian attempts to inexcusably sow murder and mayhem among the peaceful civilian population of Jerusalem the number of casualties has been remarkably light, due to the diligent efforts of the Israeli security forces and a healthy dose of rachamei Shomayim. The general public, aside from saying a few extra prayers daily, is leading life as normal.

Shemen Sales Rose 27 Percent In Last Two Months
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

Oil manufacturer Shemen Industries said on Monday that their sales have risen by 27 percent in the two months since it received the four leading kashrus certifications that it now enjoys. In July its sales were higher by some NIS 4 million.

Something For Everyone: A Recap Of Jerusalem's Citywide Shemiras Halashon Yom Iyun
by D. H.

Ask any woman in Jerusalem where she was on the third of Av, and the answer is likely to be: at the Shemiras Halashon Yom Iyun.

Palestinians Shot at UN High Commissioner
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

A UN team has concluded that the shots fired at the car convoy that carried UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson last November to visit Hebron were fired from an AK-47 rifle like that used by Palestinian forces and from an area that is under complete PA control.

German Reparations in the 50s: Zionist Boondoggle?
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

The German reparations agreement signed with the State of Israel almost fifty years ago in the wake of the Holocaust was a better deal for the State than for individual Jews. In retrospect, it seems that even the State could have gotten a better deal.

Observations: New Profile for the Israeli Draft Dodger
by B. Kravitz

A new, independent survey shows secular, left-wing youth are much less motivated to serve in the IDF. In today's world, receiving an exemption is a common affair, and is easily forgiven in mainstream society. Even New Profile, a movement working to end mandatory service in Israel, is already legally recognized, and the IDF is finding it difficult to hide the incriminating information.

Degel Hatorah Central Committee Meets
by Betzalel Kahn

The Central Committee (Secretariat) of Degel HaTorah met in the movement's Bnei Brak office last week. The meeting was attended by Degel HaTorah representatives in the Knesset and in the municipal councils. At the meeting, the Knesset members presented reports on their activities in the Knesset and the Government since the founding of the current Coalition some five months ago.

OPINION & COMMENT

The Consequences of a Bad Word

Nineteen years ago Lebanese Christian militias entered Moslem refugee camps in Lebanon named Sabra and Shatilla and spent several days avenging earlier murders of Christians by Moslems in the way that most of those who live in the Middle East do: they murdered innocents who shared the religion of the earlier criminals.
