Jaffee Center: Israel's Strategic Edge Prevents War
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
"The strategic balance in the Middle East is clearly in
Israel's favor. This positive strategic balance prevents the
struggle with the Palestinians from deteriorating into a
regional war," according to Professor Shai Feldman, head of
the Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies of Tel Aviv
University. The surrounding Arab nations have nothing to
gain and much to lose if war with Israel breaks out.

Public Service as an Expression of Thanks to Hashem for
Being Saved
by S. Yisrael
An Interview with Joe Lobenstein, Mayor of Hackney,
London.
His activities cover the whole spectrum of public life, and
he works on a totally voluntary basis. What impresses you
the most is the fact that he has been working continuously
for decades. That is how he raised his children, and his
grandchildren (and now great-grandchildren) are being raised
in the same atmosphere.

by S. Bruchi and Yated Ne'eman staff
Zurich police have detained a possible suspect in the murder
of 71-year-old HaRav Avrohom Yehoshua Greenbaum Hy"d,
on Thursday night, 17 Sivan. HaRav Greenbaum was the head of
the Beis Mordechai kollel in Bnei Brak and one of the
most prominent talmidim of the Ponevezh and Novardok

a Jewish neighborhood in Zurich.
OPINION &
COMMENT
Hatred of Jews Leads to Murder
The murder of HaRav Avrohom Yehoshua Greenbaum, Hy"d,
head of kollel Beis Mordechai in Bnei Brak and father
of 11, in Zurich last week is only a sharp, dramatic and
painful expression of the general tone of the prevailing
feelings in Europe about Jews. The Israeli public is not
directly exposed to the reporting and commentary in Europe
about events in Israel. The media there are very one-sided
and, if words could kill, there would be a lot more Jewish
casualties, Hashem yeracheim.

Osher Leaves Yeshiva
by Anni Rephun Fruchter
Years came and years went and one day we received a call
from Osher's Rebbe.
"Why has Osher left the yeshiva?" This was the first we
heard of it. When Papa came home from work, Mutti urged him
to stay calm. "Can anyone be compelled to study full time?
Against his wishes? First let's hear what he has to say.
Then we must express our confidence that whatever will be,
will not affect his religious observance and love of Torah
and mitzvos."
