The Siyum HaTorah Program Goes National
by Moshe Rockove

Have you ever wished to learn another masechta in Shas but you were not able to find the impetus to do so? Or you would love to learn consistently, every day, but find the Daf Yomi schedule too demanding. You may also wish to broaden your horizons by learning novi or mishnayos and lack a formal structure to undertake the limud.

OPINION & COMMENT

Equal Under the Law

In 1979 the Israeli Knesset passed a law that said that any public servant who receives a gift in the line of his duty must turn it over to the State. The law and its regulations are very clear, and very encompassing: it is the same whether the worker himself receives the gift, or his or her spouse, or a child who lives with them. The gift is State property and must be turned over.

Additional Luach Information

The earliest time of Kiddush Levonoh -- Sivan

The time of Kiddush Levonoh everywhere in the world begins when it is Motzei Shabbos parshas Bamidbar, the eve of 5 Sivan (May 26), from the beginning of the night.

Even those following the ruling of the Chazon Ish and only make a berochoh when the moon is "big and high" can make Kiddush Levonoh on Motzei Shabbos. On Motzei Shabbos the molad was more than four days ago when it was bein hashemoshos of Tuesday- Wednesday, 1 Sivan. Although the astronomical new moon follows the molad this month by nine hours and fifty- eight minutes and is on Wednesday morning, 1 Sivan (May 23) at 5:47 according to the summer clock, since during the four days until Motzei Shabbos the moon approaches its lowest point (perigee) and advances quickly, that regression is annulled.
