Bus Fares To Remain Stable

by S. Fried

For the first time in the history of the State, bus fares on public transportation will not go up on the 1st of July. This decision was made following the recent stability in the cost- of-living index. Fares will actually be decreased on a number of Egged inter-city lines.

According to government decision public transportation fares are updated twice a year, in accordance with the percentage of the rise in the cost-of-living index. Recently, the Transportation Ministry changed the dates of the increases to July 1 and January 1 instead of March 1 and September 1, in order to prevent increases during holiday months.

The index did not rise during the past half year, and as a result, bus fares will remain the same. Starting on July 1st, an extended daily pass will be instituted, good on all Dan busses in Tel Aviv-Yaffo, Ramat Gan, Givatayim, Bnei Brak, Givat Shmuel, Bar Ilan and Ramat Ilan. It will cost NIS 9 and may be used until the end of bus service on that particular day which may be past midnight. Elderly people will pay only NIS 4.5 for the pass.
