The Court Fulfilled the Expectations
for It
Anyone familiar with the recent history of the Israel Prize,
you might have formed some reasonable expectations about the
chances of this year's nominee. However, if his knowledge was
tempered by some familiarity with the trend of Israeli High
Court decisions, he might have been much less surprised by
the eventual outcome.

The Breakfast Nook
by M. Steinberg
I used to live in a suburb of a middle-sized city in Middle
America. The houses in this area were all large and beautiful
with spacious lawns and many had a private lake. Of all the
beautiful homes to choose as a favorite, there was one that I
especially loved and we always referred to it as Ima's dream
house. The most special part of it was the breakfast nook.

Additional Luach Information
The earliest time of Kiddush Levonoh -- Iyar
The time of Kiddush Levonoh everywhere in the world
begins when it is Motzei Shabbos parshas Kedoshim, the
eve of 2 Iyar (May 6), at 10:16 P.M. (according to the summer
clock), in Eretz Yisroel. In Eretz Yisroel itself and eastern
countries it is impossible to make a berochoh on
Kiddush Levonoh at all that night because the moon
sets before the earliest time. In most of Europe Kiddush
Levonoh can be made on this night according to the
difference in time zones in comparison to Eretz Yisroel. In
America Kiddush Levonoh can be made from the beginning
of Motzei Shabbos.
The astronomical new moon follows the molad this month
by approximately nine hours, and is on Thursday morning, 29
Nissan (May 4), at 7:12 A.M. However, during the three days
after the molad the moon passes its lowest point
(perigee) and advances extremely quickly and cancels its
appearing after the molad. Nonetheless, in most of
Europe the moon will be low and immediately after Maariv one
cannot yet make Kiddush Levonoh, and we are permitted
to annul the ma'aloh of making Kiddush Levonoh
on Motzei Shabbos according to the Chazon Ish.
