The Story of the Vaad Lehatzolas
Nidchei Yisroel Additional Calendar Information:
The earliest time of Kiddush Levonoh -- Nisan
The time of Kiddush Levonoh everywhere in the world
begins when it is Shabbos, 11:08 A.M., 3 Nisan (Jan. 20), a
little more than three full days after the molad. The
actual time in most of the world is therefore Motzei
Shabbos from the beginning of the night, the eve of 4
Nisan. Nonetheless, people living in the extreme eastern
countries can make a brocho on the moon only from 7:08
P.M.
The astronomical new moon follows the molad this month
by nine hours and forty-nine minutes, and is at 8:48 P.M. In
Eretz Yisroel on Motzei Shabbos there and less than
three full days from the astronomical new moon until the
setting of the moon. However, during the three days following
the astronomical new moon the moon passes near its lowest
point (perigee) and advances quickly. As a result almost all
of the moon's late appearance of approximately ten hours is
canceled. This information is significant for those who act
according to the Chazon Ish and do not make a brocho
on the moon until it is big and high in the sky.
