On Sunday over 200 people gathered at the Lederman shul in Bnei Brak in a prelude to the Agudath Israel of America's 17th Yerushalayim Yarchei Kallah.

Knesset Hearings on the Cost of Kashrus to Israel

The Economy Committee of the Knesset convened to discuss the subject of the cost of kashrus in Israel. Several reports and media attacks suggested that kashrus observance is a significant drag on the economy. Of course, for one who does not believe in it, anything spent on kashrus is too much.

Shabbos Struggles in Yerushalayim

In anticipation of the hearings on the Jerusalem municipal budget approval for 2017, the representatives of the United Torah Jewry faction together with Shas, under the guidance of the party heads and Chairman of the Finance Committee, Rabbis Moshe Gafni, Health Minister Yaakov Litzman and Interior Minister Arye Deri, seek a guarantee that the city cease to fund events that desecrate the Shabbos, be they overt or indirect support.

Hesped and Chizuk from HaRav Dovid Cohen

HaRav Dovid Cohen, rosh yeshiva of Chevron Yeshiva and a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah, delivered a halacha shiur at the Yerushalayim Yarchei Kallah of American Agudas Yisroel. He also spoke on non-halachic matters, including a short hesped for HaRav Moshe Shapira zt"l and chizuk for the Shovevim period. The following is not a full report but rather the notes taken by someone listening to the shiur.

Words of Emunah by Chaim Walder

by Chaim Walder
A powerful story of the power of emunah.

About a month ago, at six o'clock p.m., Meir B., an eleven- year-old boy, finished his studies at the Erloi Cheder in Bnei Brak and began walking home.

At home a book was waiting for him, which was bought as a prize for good behavior. But Meir did not arrive home that day and also did not read the book. A car hit him at a crosswalk with tremendous force.

Monkeys And Typewriters: The Making of a Modern-Day Myth

By Joshua Josephson Part I

One is not accustomed to thinking of science as a creator of myths. A myth is "an ill-founded belief held uncritically, especially by an interested group." Science is generally considered to be a rational discipline grounded in logic and clear thinking. Nevertheless, science has its own share of myths. One such myth it has engendered, maybe unwittingly, is commonly referred to as "monkeys and typewriters."
