The Lure of High Interest Loans

Hetter Iska is Not Valid for High Interest Loans

HaRav Yehuda Silman, a rav in Bnei Brak who is very active in many business-related areas, had some choice comments and halachic insights for the readers of the Hebrew Yated Ne'eman about risky investments. The article was written in the wake of the collapse of an investor in Bnei Brak who caused losses to the religious community in the tens of millions of shekels.

A Cry and Plea to the Jewish People

As darkness covers the world with hester ponim, with so many troubles and much pain besetting our people, and as Hashem's hand is even extended in wrath over the nations of the world, we must remember that disasters visit the world only because of, and to arouse, our People.

Letter

To the Rabbonim of Europe Gathered in Toulouse, France:

We see before our eyes the acceleration of anti-Semitism primarily on the part of descendants of Yishmoel. Regarding this situation, Chazal said in Midrash Rabbah on the posuk, "Turn northward." "Said R' Chiya: If you see him [Yishmoel] oppressing you, don't stand against him but rather go into hiding until his world passes." Tzafonah (Northward), refers to Torah, and by fortifying ourselves in Torah study and mitzva-observance we will be able to stand against those who seek to harm us.

Meeting of the Conference of European Rabbis

The Twenty-Ninth Conference of European Rabbonim opened its special assembly in Toulouse on the note of the swelling anti-Semitism in Europe in general, and in France in particular.

HaRav Shlomo Wolbe, zt"l, at the end of the Sheloshim, 17 Iyar

by Yated Ne'eman Staff

On the Sheloshim of the Mashgiach, we present this selection of the thoughts of the Mashgiach himself: the last shmuess he gave in Yeshivas Giv'at Shaul, an interview he gave to Yated Ne'eman almost exactly five years ago, some short thoughts that he expressed on various occasions, and finally a short but powerful and important piece about what the world can become chas vesholom if someone becomes estranged from the truth of Hashem and Torah.

Our biographies of gedolim remain one of our most popular features. Our attempts to capture in a few short pages something of the greatness of our Torah leaders provides inspirational reading that many of our readers find enjoyable.

Obvious Truths Are Easily Overlooked

by Rav Yisroel Nulman

Some acquaintances of mine suggested that during the period of Sefiras Ha'omer it is not only fitting but also worthwhile to publish an article about prevalent problems of bein odom lechavero, difficulties that are encountered in interpersonal relations. In their opinion, the way many people interact with others in daily life is totally incomprehensible. My acquaintances described various ways of improper behavior that repeat themselves in several situations.
