Modi'in Illit Posted 77% Rise in Employment from 2003 to 2007
The employment rate in Modi'in Illit rose 77 percent between 2003 and 2007, compared to a 50-percent growth rate in the city's workforce during the same period, thanks to a range of women's employment projects, according to figures released by the National Insurance Institute.
The first round of bidding for apartments in Ramat Beit Shemesh, for 750 units which were bid based on the price the contractor promised to sell the apartments with the lowest offer winning ("mechir lemishtakein"), was completed with the winning bids coming in at NIS 550-580,000 ($147-155,000). This price is significantly lower than recent sales in the Beit Shemesh area, and all those involved were very pleased with the results. A second round was also held recently for another 1,350 units.
The Goloventzitz project for the construction of 1,500 housing units for chareidi residents in Ramat Beit Shemesh Alef got under way last week after all of the necessary permits — including approval from the Antiquities Authority — were obtained. Atty. Meir Mizrachi, who is handling the taxes involved in the project, estimates the first residents should be able to take up occupancy within two years. The foundation reports have already been submitted and planning is currently in its final stage as contractors prepare to break ground.
Knesset Finance Committee Chairman MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni, during a tour of Afula and Tzfas, met with local leaders, Degel HaTorah representatives and heads of the Torah communities in the two northern cities.
