New Threat to Shechitah in Europe
The European Commission in Brussels is intervening once again
in the matter of kosher shechitah in Europe. The
bureaucracy is preparing a new directive aimed at bypassing
the existing arrangement and undermining shechitah by
applying pressure through the European Parliament.
A shaver bearing the official hechsher of the Beis Din
for Halachic Shavers headed by HaRav Mordechai Gross and
recently launched on the market following four years of
research and development is now in high demand.
Yemeni authorities rejected a request by the family of Moshe
Yaish Nahari Hy'd, who was murdered in Riydah last
week, to have the body flown to Eretz Yisroel for burial. The
killing was an embarrassment to President Ali Abdullah Selah,
who would like Yemen to be portrayed internationally as a
place where Jews are treated well.
Eighty-one percent of non-government organizations operating
in Israel are facing financial difficulties, including 22
percent in serious trouble financially, according to a survey
of 220 organizations released by the Center for Research of
the Third Sector at Ben Gurion University in cooperation with
the Civic Leadership Organization, an umbrella group for
Israeli nonprofit organizations, and Shatil.
The City of Ashkelon has annulled the standard penalty built
into the municipal ordinance that prevents businesses from
operating on Shabbos and holidays. Following the unexpected
move, legal rights organization Betzedek has warned the
legislation is illegal and essentially nullifies the
municipal ordinance entirely.
The first medics' motorcycle unit in Israel, which was
launched by United Hatzalah a few weeks ago, will serve
medics in responding to emergency calls on Shabbos as well.
The motorcycles, which were shown to the rabbinical heads of
United Hatzalah, provide a halachic solution for certain
parts of the country where medics encounter a halachic
problem upon returning home following a response to an
emergency.

inaugurating the Mishkan in view of the fact that he had so
many ongoing responsibilities there. Furthermore, why was he
reconciled with the knowledge that he was responsible for
