HaRav Shmuel Auerbach: We Have an Obligation to Protect
Yeshiva World from Interference
"We had the golden period of Rabbenu Hagodol. My father and
teacher zt"l said Am Yisroel has not had such a leader
for many generations, and I heard the same thing said by
Rabban Shel Kol Bnei HaGoloh Maran HaRav Eliashiv
shlita. I heard this from both of them on several
occasions," said HaRav Shmuel Auerbach during an enormous
gathering in Bnei Brak on Motzei Shabbos Parshas Vayeiro to
mark the seventh yahrtzeit of HaRav Shach
zt"l.
Rabbonim and dayanim are protesting an alliance between
secular and religious Zionists to set up conversion courts
not associated with the Chief Rabbinate. These courts plan to
add to the Reform and Conservative conversions performed
through "secular conversion" and "national-religious
conversion."
The poignant convention theme of this year's Agudas Yisroel
national convention — Ve'emunoscho Baleilos:
Maintaining Simchas HaChaim and Emunah in Challenging Times
— will be addressed at the gathering's Thursday evening
plenary session, which will be open to the public.
United Torah Judaism representatives at the Jerusalem
Municipality held a meeting early this week to formulate a
stance in preparation for the coalition negotiations with the
Mayor-elect Nir Barkat.
The Vaad Haolami LeInyonei Giyur founded by HaRav Chaim
Kreiswirth zt"l met with CER representatives to relate
serious faults in conversions performed in various part of
Europe, particularly Prague, where a group of so-called
rabbis from Eretz Yisroel operates a wholesale conversion
apparatus in the city under the aegis of a local rabbi.
Investment bank Merrill Lynch has applied to become the first
remote member on the Tel Aviv Securities Exchange. The
application, submitted by its subsidiary, Merrill Lynch
International (MLI), is the first of its kind.
According to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism,
between January and October of this year 2.567 million
visitors entered Israel — 36 percent more than the same
period last year. The number of tourists entering came to 2.2
million (an increase of 26 percent) while 394,000 stopped for
one-day visits, which started to become common in 2007.
During the days leading up to the US presidential elections
and of course Election Day itself Betzalel Wolf, voter
registration coordinator for Agudas Yisroel of America, had
his hands full as he worked feverishly to get the voters out
to the polls. He was the person to turn to for all Aguda
members seeking information or assistance in casting their
vote.
