Following a remark by PM Ehud Olmert that he intends to solve the "conversion crisis" within four months, the Vaad HaRabbonim LeInyonei Giyur, founded by HaRav Chaim Kreiswirth, zt"l, once again points out that Israel's demographic problem cannot be solved through mass conversion.


Claims Committee Obtains Reparations for Jewish Survivors of Siege of Leningrad

Following years of negotiations with the German government the Claims Committee reached an agreement to pay one-time reparations to Jewish survivors of the Nazi siege of Leningrad now living in Western countries. During the course of the annual negotiations, the German government recognized Leningrad siege victims' eligibility for reparations from the Claims Committee Assistance Fund on condition that they meet the Fund's other criteria.


Keren Shevi'is Presents Financial Reports of Aid to Farmers

The special beis din run by Keren Shevi'is met this week at the home of HaRav Nissim Karelitz, who heads the beis din. At the start of the meeting the beis din was presented with financial reports on the amount of aid given to Shmittah-observant farmers in various parts of Eretz Yisroel, and specific requests were evaluated.

An important feature of these talks was the openness and frankness in which they were held.
