Jews in Syrian Town Face Persecution
According to press reports hundreds of Jews in the Syrian town of Al Qamishli, located near the Turkish border, face threats of annihilation. Their property has been appropriated and the police persecute them and throw many into prisons and torture chambers.
In a cutting letter to PM Ehud Olmert, State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss, Attorney General Manny Mazuz and Education Ministry Yuli Tamir, MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni alerted them to another grave incident of discrimination against the chareidi education system following a directive not to apply Phase Alef of the education system reform to chareidi educational institutions and teacher training programs.
The City of Jerusalem has authorized the transfer of millions
of shekels in budget funding for exempt and recognized-but-
unofficial institutions in the chareidi education system
earmarked for major renovations, equipment purchases,
educational programs and safety activities.
The Jewish community in Rome is trying to placate anti-
Israeli and antisemitic provocation by the Italian left and
Muslims by initiating meetings with Muslim organizations.
Vaadas HaRabbonim LeKedushas HaShabbos met last week and
decided to launch an open protest against the Alon Group,
which heads chains like Dor Gaz, Blue Square, Shefa Shuk and
more, in light of announcements by the executive board that
it plans to open dozens of additional AMPM stores in Gush Dan
and other parts of the country.
This week a delegation headed by roshei yeshivos and rabbonim
from Eretz Yisroel, Europe and the US is in Tbilisi, Georgia
(FSU) for a Yarchei Kallah sponsored by HaVaad LeHatzolas
Nidchei Yisroel.
