Rosh Chodesh Shevat falls on Shabbos, Jan. 20.

"Some are accustomed to pray Yom Kippur Koton (on erev Rosh Chodesh)...The Maharom of Korduviro would call it Kippur Koton since on it would be atoned the sins of the whole month...The seforim write that even if someone doesn't fast he should do teshuvah on this day and remedy the sins of the whole month since this is the last day of each month just like erev Rosh HaShannah is of the whole year" (Mishnah Berurah 417:4).

During Shevat one should exert himself to love and pursue peace, to restore domestic harmony and good relations between people, more than the whole year—R' Chaim Felagi.

The Battle of the Talmudei Torah in Eretz Yisroel

By Rabbi Moshe Karp

It's high time to unite the principals of all of the talmudei Torah (what the Education Ministry calls "exempt institutions"). The talmudei Torah face numerous battles and a lone talmud Torah has no way of defending itself and fighting back. In order to wage a battle with a united front a single organization must be set up, representing all of the talmudei Torah in Eretz Yisroel.
