Petachia Leads Tender to Operate Rehabilitative Daycare
Centers
By Betzalel Kahn
For the second time in a row a chareidi organization has won
the highest score on a nationwide Welfare Ministry tender to
operate rehabilitative daycare centers.
The winner was Petachia Special Education Institutions, which
rose to the top of the list for the second time in three
years, scoring 99.06 percent on criteria matching among the
87 bidding organizations from all sectors. About half of the
tender participants were disqualified. In Jerusalem,
Educators of Deaf Children surpassed it with a score of 99.69
percent, but in the rest of the country Petachia headed the
list.
For several years Petachia has been operating special-ed
classes and rehabilitative daycare centers in Jerusalem, Bnei
Brak, Beit Shemesh, Modi'in Illit, Beitar Illit, Nof Ayalon
(Gezer Local Council) and other locations. The list of tender
winners includes veteran organizations such as Shalva, Aleh,
Taf Letaf, Alvin, Beit Izzy Shapira, Ramat David, Shema
Koleinu, Sulam, Ezer Mitzion, Siach Sod, Tikva Leyeled, Magen
Halev, Machon Achiya, Shaarei Marpei and Tzohar Letohar.
"The decision of the committee that checked how well the
rehabilitation institutions meet the criteria is further
proof of the chareidi public's high awareness of the
handicapped child's needs and rehabilitation," said Petachia
Chairman Rabbi Yitzchok Goldknopf.
In the chareidi sector there is no such thing as an
"abnormal" child, he said. "Even if he is disabled he
deserves the best professional and individual treatment and I
am pleased once again Petachia has been selected to serve as
an example."
