Five new and luxurious delivery rooms were dedicated during
Chol Hamoed Succos, representing an investment approximately
USD 1.3 million, provided mainly by friends of the hospital
from abroad.
Bikur Cholim Hospital, which has come out of a two-year long
crisis, is opening five new labor and delivery rooms, among
the most luxurious in the country and with the most advanced
medical equipment in the field. Dr. Rephael Pollack, Medical
Director of the hospital and a specialist in Obstetrics and
Gynecology, said that among other things, the labor and
delivery rooms have wireless monitors which allow the women
giving birth more freedom of movement.
The renovations completely changed these delivery rooms which
had not been renovated for 20 years. The architect who
supervised the project, Mr. Motti Bodek, planned the rooms to
look more like hotel rooms than hospital wards. The approach
is that birth is a natural process which doesn't necessarily
demand any medical or surgical intervention. Therefore, the
beautiful room creates a homey atmosphere, helping to ease
the discomfort of the woman in labor.
In the near future, each labor and delivery room will be
fitted with a stereo system and a personal computer in order
to make the woman's stay in the labor and delivery room more
pleasant.
The renovations were difficult due to the fact that the
building is over 100 years old. Of course, the delivery rooms
continued to operate during the renovations, with maximum
effort made to ensure cleanliness and quiet for the new
mothers.
The hospital is also opening a hospital room (only one at
this stage) for women after giving birth that is right next
to the labor and delivery rooms. It is one of the most
luxurious and modern rooms in the country. In this room, the
baby can stay with the mother (rooming-in service). The room
has a safe as well as a small private fridge as well as many
other special features.
Professor Chaim Yaffe, Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology
Department, said: "In addition to the high medical level and
the unique nursing level that the hospital has, I can now
with great gratification say that the aesthetic standard of
our labor and delivery rooms is one of the best in the
country."
