Proposal to Provide Chareidi Institutions Equal Funding
Passed in First Reading
The Knesset plenum voted 45-1 in favor of a government-
sponsored bill regarding funding by local authorities for
"recognized by unofficial" educational institutions in a
first reading on Monday. Virtually all institutions with that
status are chareidi.
The 12th Annual Conference of Agudath Yisroel in Europe began
last Friday 16 Iyar-May 4, in the resort town of Bournemouth,
England, drawing participants from France, Switzerland,
Austria, Holland, Belgium and other parts of Europe,
including gedolei Torah and gedolei Chassidus,
along with well-known figures from the US and Eretz
Yisroel.
On Monday 19 Iyar, the first day of the summer session, MK
Rabbi Moshe Gafni tabled three new bills.
Meoros HaDaf HaYomi sponsored a major event at the main
Vishnitz beis medrash in Ashdod's Rova Zayin
neighborhood to mark the completion of Seder Moed and
the beginning of maseches Yevomos. Thousands of Daf
Yomi learners and maggidei shiurim from the Southern
and Negev Regions were joined by gedolei Torah,
roshei yeshivos and rabbonim, headed by HaRav Aharon
Leib Shteinman shlita.
Following requests by Vaadas HaRabbonim Lemaan Kedushas
HaShabbos, MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni and Chief Rabbi Yonah
Metzger, police officials altered plans to send hundreds of
policemen to Meron on Shabbos in preparation for Lag BaOmer
that began motzei Shabbos. Similarly Egged announced later
departure times for the first buses leaving chareidi
communities for Meron.
Visitors arrived en masse late at night on Motzei
Shabbos and Sunday to lay forth their prayers for Klal
Yisroel as well as individual concerns at the gravesite
of R' Shimon Bar Yochai in Meron.

The Immorality of Palestinian Combatants and Noncombatants
According to the Ramo (494:3) we do not say tachanun
from Rosh Chodesh Sivan until after Isru Chag (there
are other minhogim that do not say tachanun
until after the seven days of hashlomoh that follow
Shavuos).
On Rosh Chodesh Sivan we do not say tachanun like on
every Rosh Chodesh. The second of Sivan is called Yom
HaMeyuchas since after yetzias Mitzrayim Hashem
commanded Moshe to say to bnei Yisroel: "Now therefore
if you will obey My voice indeed, and keep My covenant, then
you shall be My own treasure from among all peoples"
(Shemos 19:5) to prepare them for Torah. Afterwards,
the third, forth, and fifth of Sivan are the Sheloshes
Yemei Hagboloh when bnei Yisroel waited for
kabolas HaTorah (Mishnah Berurah 494:8, and see
Shabbos 86-88).
We do not say vetzidkoscho tzedek on Shabbos since it
is the YOm MaMeyuchas
