Police Demand Autopsy for Infant in Ashdod; Community
Protests
By Betzalel Kahn
Ashdod residents are up in arms following a demand by police
to have an autopsy performed on a baby that died suddenly
Sunday morning. Through the intervention of Atty. Rabbi Moshe
Elmaliach and ZAKA's legal department, the court denied the
request for an autopsy, except for a blood test. If the
police persist, the case will be turned over to the High
Court.

Israel and abroad. At Yeshivas Be'er Yaakov gedolei

Visit to Sao Paolo
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
Beis Knesses Makor Chaim in Sao Paulo was filled to capacity
when about 2,000 of the city's chareidi residents turned out
to receive HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman. Two rows of talmud
Torah talmidim decked out in white shirts kept singing
and singing — Vechol asher ya'aseh yatzliach,
Ashrei mi she'amolo baTorah and Yomim al yemei
melech tosif — until the rov of the kehilloh
began to speak.
Peretz Upholds Order to Expand Beitar Illit
by Tzvi Sofer
Despite recent announcements by Defense Minister Amir Peretz
he would "reassess" expansion orders for Jewish communities
beyond the Green Line, Peretz does not plan to cancel the
orders. One day earlier Central Headquarters Commander Gen.
Yair Naveh signed an order authorizing the expansion of the
city of Beitar Illit by 500 dunams (125 acres), thereby
connecting the city to the Green Line.

German Pope Offends Local Jewish Community During Visit in
Poland
By Arnon Yaffeh, Paris
Benedict XVI, the current pope, drove by the memorial for the
Warsaw Ghetto at 60 mph instead of stopping to participate at

Derocheho Darchei Noam — The Ways of Torah are
Pleasant
The pleasantness of the Torah is what we would like to
display for all to see, since that would undoubtedly be the
most effective aspect to draw in the lost souls, and also to
impress the rest of the world.
From Sinai Until Now: Moshe Rabbenu's Torah
A Shmuess Delivered by HaRav Yitzchok Hutner zt'l,
Shavuos 5740 Prepared from Notes Taken by Reb Leib Rutta
Preface
From Sefer Hazikaron Lemaran Baal Pachad Yitzchok
ztvk'l, pp.129-130
In retrospect, it is striking that on the last Shavuos of his
life he dwelt on the fact that, "Every generation loses a
Moshe Rabbenu, with whom three thousand halachos are also
lost" (they were forgotten during the mourning period of
Moshe Rabbenu).

Additional Luach Information
According to the Ramo (494:3) we do not say tachanun
from Rosh Chodesh Sivan until after Isru Chag (there
are other minhogim that do not say tachanun
until after the seven days of hashlomoh that follow
Shavuos).
On Rosh Chodesh Sivan we do not say tachanun as we do
on every Rosh Chodesh. The second of Sivan is called Yom
HaMeyuchas since after yetzias Mitzrayim Hashem
commanded Moshe to say to bnei Yisroel: "Now therefore
if you will obey My voice indeed, and keep My covenant, then
you shall be My own treasure from among all peoples"
(Shemos 19:5) to prepare them for Torah. Afterwards,
the third, forth, and fifth of Sivan are the Sheloshes
Yemei Hagboloh when bnei Yisroel waited for
kabolas HaTorah (Mishnah Berurah 494:8, and see
Shabbos 86-88).
Shavuos falls on Friday, 6 Sivan (June 2) and in
Chutz La'aretz also on Shabbos, 7 Sivan (June 3). An
eruv Tavshilin must be made on erev Shavuos,
Thursday, in order to be permitted to cook on the first day
of Shavuos, Friday, for Shabbos.
