As the 30-day mourning period for HaRav Moshe Shmuel Shapira
zt"l, the rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Be'er Yaakov, came
to an end this week, special events were held throughout
Israel and abroad. At Yeshivas Be'er Yaakov gedolei
Torah, roshei yeshivos and thousands of the Rosh
Yeshiva's talmidim gathered to hear talks by the
rabbonim of the yeshiva and leading talmidim.
At Yeshivas Chochmoh Vodaas in Rechovot an event was held on
Monday to mark the beginning of the writing of a sefer
Torah as an illui neshomoh for HaRav Shapira and
HaRav Shlomo Wolbe zt"l, who served as menahel
ruchani at Yeshivas Be'er Yaakov for many years.
A gathering was held at Beis Knesses Chazon Ish in
Jerusalem's Ramat Shlomo neighborhood Monday night. Speakers
included HaRav Moshe Shapira, HaRav Shmuel Yaakov Bournstein
and his son-in-law, HaRav Sholom Dov Shimon.
Another gathering took place at Beis Knesses Maor Chaim for
Yeshivas Maor HaTalmud alumni in Modi'in Illit, where talks
were given by HaRav Avrohom Yitzchok Kook and HaRav Aryeh
Zelivansky.
In Netanya the Admor of Sanz took part in a gathering and
heard a talk by the rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Sanz, HaRav
Eliyohu Chaim Shmerling.
HaRav Sholom Povarsky and HaRav Dovid Yitzchok Shapira flew
to England to participate in a gathering attended by
gedolei Torah of England. At Yeshivas Gateshead a talk
was given by the rosh yeshiva, HaRav Avrohom Gurwicz.
At a large event at Yeshivas Mir-New York eulogies were given
by HaRav Shmuel Birnbaum, HaRav Meir Tzvi Bergman, the Admor
of Novominsk, HaRav Malkiel Kotler, HaRav Meir Chaim Zilber
and HaRav Chaim Ginsford.
At Yeshivas Lakewood talks were given by the roshei yeshiva
and the rabbonim, as well as HaRav Bergman and HaRav Zilber,
HaRav Shapira's grandson.
Agudas Yisroel of America sponsored a gathering at which
speakers included HaRav Menashe Klein, gavad of
Ungvar, and HaRav Chaim Epstein, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas
Zichron Melech.
At the main kollel in Toronto talks were given by
HaRav Simchoh Hacohen Kook and rabbonim from the
kehilloh.
On Monday the family and numerous talmidim went to the
gravesite at Beis Hachaim Yotzei Ponovezh in Bnei Brak.
