Yad Sarah volunteers are continuing their special activities
following the ongoing rocket attacks in the North.
The Yad Sarah branch at the government hospital in Nahariya
moved to an underground facility on Monday and volunteers
lent out medical equipment to discharged patients. The Haifa
branch is lending out equipment, including wheelchairs, "to
allow people to reach the MAMAD [reinforced room] quickly,"
said one volunteer. The branches in Kiryat Ata and Kiryat
Motzkin are working out of bomb shelters. Volunteers woke up
city residents who decided to spend the night in bomb
shelters. Branches in Carmiel, Afula, Chatzor Glilit and
Sderot also operated as usual this week. The Yad Sarah
branch in Kiryat Shemoneh was closed.
Yad Sarah runs three service vehicles in the North —
in Afula and the outlying valleys, in Haifa and the Haifa
Bay suburbs and in the Western Galilee — that provide
medical equipment and oxygen tanks to patients in need.
Patients who require medical devices and cannot reach one of
the branches can call the Yad Sarah hotline at #6444 from
any phone and a volunteer will come to their home. The Yad
Sarah Crisis Hotline is also operating as usual. Hotline
volunteers were given a special briefing and guidelines for
handling elderly patients in a state of high stress.
Hatzoloh Yisroel continues to send medical equipment to the
North. This week Hatzoloh of Jerusalem sent dozens of
shrapnel vests to the Galilee-based staff and a small rescue
vehicle to Metullah. Volunteers in the North and the Galilee
also received motorbikes, resuscitation and wound-dressing
kits, oxygen tanks, flashlights and other lighting devices.
Hatzoloh Yisroel medics continue to administer first aid to
Katyusha victims throughout the North and the Galilee and
remain on high alert.
