Jerusalem Mayor Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky instructed municipal
officials to make arrangements for dozens or even hundreds
of families arriving in Jerusalem due to the precarious
situation in the North. The Mayor instructed the Department
for Chareidi Education to allow talmud Torah students
from the North who are staying in Jerusalem to maintain
their study routine in order to alleviate the emotional
strain they are under.
The municipality will provide groups of students with
municipal facilities suitable for use as classrooms, while
small groups of students will be incorporated into local
talmudei Torah, where studies continue until Tisha
B'Av.
With the help of Chareidi Education Commissioner Rabbi Uri
Maklev, students from Derech Chochmoh in Tzfas got quickly
back into gear, resuming their studies on Monday morning.
The Department for Chareidi Education, headed by Rabbi
Binyomin Cohen, allocated five spacious classrooms in a
building in Ramot owned by the municipality. The Department
says arrangements are even being made to allow the students
to take part in summer camps held at municipal
institutions.
The municipal hotline is working to link families from the
North with host families in Jerusalem. To take part in this
program, dial 106 or 02-5314600.
The Modi'in Illit Council also opened a hotline to arrange
accommodations for families from the North. Council Head
Rabbi Yaakov Guterman asked residents to call the city
hotline if they are able to host families from chareidi
neighborhoods in Tiberius, Tzfas, Haifa, Carmiel and other
northern cities.
Within hours residents showed a brisk response with calls
from dozens of families prepared to take in residents from
the North. Modi'in Illit families interested in taking part
in the program can dial 107, while families looking for a
place to stay can call Rabbi Guterman's office directly at
08- 9141201.
