OPINION & COMMENT

Who is an Authentic Jew?

Most of Klal Yisroel — certainly most of the residents of Israel, judging by the way they answer surveys about their relationship to Jewish tradition — greeted as good news the announcement that Kibbutz Degania was building a beit knesset. Not so Reform Rabbi Dr. Dalia Sara Marx, a teacher at the Hebrew Union College.

The Task of a Jewish Mother
A letter from HaRav Shimshon Pincus, zt'l

Dear Parent,

I am writing with regard to the articles that appeared in the paper, on the topic of hosting married children in their parents' home for Shabbos, chagim, and the like. I wish to bring our readers' attention to a very important point and explain what I understand to be a basic problem, and even a fundamental error in hashkofoh.

Thinking Deeply About Torah
by Maran HaRav Shach, zt"l

The Torah states: "If you seek it like silver, like buried treasures you look for it, then you will understand the fear of Hashem, and the knowledge of Elokim will you find" (Mishlei 2:4). The verse compares the effort of attaining yiras Shomayim to two things: the pursuit of money and the search for [buried] treasure.

Meaningful Prayer (part 14)
by Dovid Leitner

Adon Olom (Part 4)

In a previous article we described how the first part of Adon Olom incorporates the meanings of the various Names of Hashem. This is said at the onset of our tefillos, as suggested by the Apter Rov in keeping with the Vilna Gaon, so as to act as an initial declaration of our correct intentions whenever we pronounce His Name in our subsequent tefillos.

Politica: Olmert on the Job
By E. Rauchberger

After many long days of globetrotting and silence on security matters at home as Kassam missiles rained down on Sderot, PM Ehud Olmert now realizes that he has to get to work rather than letting the job rest entirely on the narrow shoulders of his defense minister, Amir Peretz, as much as doing that may be worth to him politically. Under the current circumstances the PM can no longer avoid responsibility, laying all the blame on Peretz.
