Shinui Continues Scheming Against Observant Public

by Eliezer Rauchberger

Acting Finance Committee Chairman MK Polishok-Bloch of Shinui took advantage of her position as meeting chairman last week to torpedo a bill to require food products be marked meat, dairy or pareve.

She offered no clear reason for her opposition and arbitrarily postponed the subsequent meeting on this issue for six weeks.

Meanwhile, Ms. Bloch backed a bill that would require labels to indicate whether the food product contains meat or dairy ingredients, for the sake of consumers who adhere to a strictly vegetarian or vegan diet.

MK Uri Ariel (HaIchud HaLeumi) objected to MK Bloch's conduct. "The secular coercion Shinui is leading tramples underfoot the desire of the vast majority of the Jewish people to know whether a product is pareve, meat or dairy," he said. MK Bloch held her ground, saying whoever was unsatisfied with the way she was conducting the meeting should leave, but MK Ariel continued his objections. "Sixty to seventy percent of the public keeps kosher. MK Polishok's approach of postponing the continuation of the meeting for another six weeks harms the majority of consumers. This is coercion by a minority over the majority and stems solely from hatred."
