Sefer Ma'aseh Yehudis
by Rabbi Moshe Chaim Leiter Reviewed by Yated Ne'eman Staff
Rabbi Moshe Chaim Leiter, already known for his original
works on the five Megillos, has once again benefited
the Torah community with the publication of his new sefer,
Ma'aseh Yehudis. This slim volume contains a thorough
treatment of the well-known story of Yehudis, the valorous
woman who cleverly succeeded in beheading the Greek governor
of Jerusalem in the times of the Hellenists.
Rabbi Leiter has taken pains to record every source that
mentions Ma'aseh Yehudis. Each source from Chazal, the
Geonim, and Rishonim, is quoted in its entirety, making the
book a primary resource on the subject. He also shares with
his readers the fruits of his research and discusses such
matters as the historical placement of the event, significant
deviations between versions of the event, and the halachos
that find their origins in Ma'aseh Yehudis.
Ma'aseh Yehudis is a wonderful companion to his earlier work
on Chanukah, the highly acclaimed Mamleches Kohanim on
Megillas Antiochus.
Printed along with this sefer is a commentary to the
prayer Al HaNissim based on Chazal and Rishonim,
compiled and fully annotated by Rabbi M. G.
Undoubtedly, this sefer will enhance the spirit and
appreciation of Chanukah for anyone who reads it.
