Bnei Brak Parking Violations Below National Average
By A. Cohen
The number of parking violations by Bnei Brak residents has
been decreasing in recent years compared to the national
average according to a report released by the City Parking
Authority based on accumulated statistics.
The report says that 83.6 percent of the parking tickets left
on car windows in the city went to drivers who were not
residents of Bnei Brak. The national average is 60 percent
nonresidents compared to 40 percent city residents. The lower
rate of parking violations in Bnei Brak has been attributed
to greater awareness among city residents following boosted
enforcement and an extensive informational campaign.
A total of 216,553 parking tickets were issued in 2002 and
2003. The tickets led to proceedings based on the Law and
Order Law and tax orders. The original fines listed on the
tickets totaled NIS 20,896,870. A relatively high percentage
of fines—57 percent—were paid after the first
notice and an additional 22.7 percent were paid after the
second notice.
