Steam
by Betzalel Kahn
As a show of support for the fight against those who seek to
uproot Shabbos in Eretz Hakodesh, maranan verabonon
offered words of encouragement to the action committee set up
to organize a mass demonstration in Tel Aviv to strengthen
Shabbos in Eretz Hakodesh and to combat blatant Shabbos
desecration at malls, roadside stores and outlets
specifically aimed to maximize Shabbos sales turnover.
Maranan Verabonon: Stop Grave Destruction in Acco
By Betzalel Kahn
Although the Transportation Ministry has officially
acknowledged that the graves slated for disinterment in Acco
are indeed part of an ancient Jewish cemetery, Minister Meir
Shetreet is pursuing the original plan to raze the site to
make room for railroad tracks and a tunnel, apparently in
"revenge" for the UTJ vote against the Disengagement Plan.

Rabbi Gafni to Right-Wing MKs:
"Don't Preach to Us"
by Eliezer Rauchberger
"People are constantly asking me, `How can you be in favor of
disengagement or abstain? How can such a thing be when Eretz
Yisroel is at stake?' And I ask: `We are in an administration
in which representatives of the settlers sat--HaIchud
HaLeumi, the NRP and very large segments of the Likud
consisting of very traditional people--in a single coalition
with Shinui, which hoisted the banner of total revolt against
Toras Yisroel, something that has never been done by any
party in the Knesset. So how can you come and preach to us?"
demanded MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni, of MKs representing the right
and the settlers.
Modi'in Illit has a Disengagement Plan of Its Own
by Aryeh Zissman
In Modi'in Illit, the concept of disengagement has a
different meaning. Here it refers to a plan to sever the city
on Shabbos from the electricity supplied by the Israel
Electric Corporation and to connect instead to a local
generator plant that would operate without chilul

A Poisoned Society
Yasser Arafat has left the Middle East, almost exactly ten
years after he came back from North Africa on the wings of
the Oslo Agreements and the promise of peace in our area.
Bein Odom Lechavero and the Battles for Hashem
Based on the works of Maran HaRav Elozor Menachem
Shach, zt"l
The approach of Maran R' Shach ztvk'l to communal
matters was not uniform, but composed of different parts and
aspects which were, sometimes, even extremely contradictory.
Therefore, there are two prerequisites necessary in order for
one to properly focus on the lessons to be derived from his
practices: a readiness to study them in depth, and the wisdom
and understanding with which to interpret those lessons.
