Meeting With HaRav Eliashiv on Chinuch Atzmai Broadcast by Satellite to the US
by Betzalel Kahn

"There is no need to explain the value of Chinuch Atzmai, which was founded by gedolei Yisroel of the previous generation. Thousands of children receive a Torah education there. Now hovering over [the system] is a definite danger that it will be unable to continue and they will have to close Chinuch Atzmai schools.

US Citizens in Israel and Elsewhere Can Vote
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

The upcoming US elections could be just as close as the previous elections. As in the 2000 elections, the election could be decided by just a few voters in key states. Yet instead of American citizens in Israel sitting back in their armchairs and waiting for the outcome of the elections, they can sit back in their armchairs while actively taking part in the elections.

by N. Katzin

An antismoking organization called Chaim Bri'im Kehalachoh started by Rabbi Yechezkel Escheiyik, rabbonim and public figures, has launched a broad campaign aimed at the chareidi public -- and yeshiva students in particular -- through advertisements, activities and the distribution of a special edition of Chaim Lelo Ishun Al Pi HaTorah ("Life Without Smoking According to the Torah"), which was written and edited by Rabbi Escheiyik.

by Betzalel Kahn

Following calls by maranan verabonon gedolei Yisroel thousands of Jews of all backgrounds held tefilloh and his'orerus gatherings to rouse rachamei Shomayim in light of the tragedies befalling Am Yisroel, as Jewish blood is spilled like water in Eretz Hakodesh and enemies from without and within rise up against us, leaving us with no recourse other than to take up our forefathers' trade by increasing our prayers and supplications.

Challenges of the Modern World: Tikkun Ho'olom

A section of the gemora recently covered in the daf yomi at the beginning of Erchin (2b) discusses what to do about a man who is half-free and half-slave. Beis Shammai argue: "He is forbidden to marry a female slave and he is forbidden to marry a free woman.

OBSERVATIONS

Observations: Who are We Dealing With?
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

Colonel Eyal Eisenberg, who has commanded the Givati Brigade for ten months, was in the rear command headquarters, outside of the Gaza Strip, when the Armored Personnel Carrier exploded in Gaza City's Zeitoun neighborhood in the middle of May this year. He hurried to the scene and directly commanded the complex and dangerous search for the soldiers' remains, so that they could be brought to burial in Israel.

HOME & FAMILY

Candy
by Ruth Lewis

The Milsteins lived in the house just back of ours. In fact, Mrs. Milstein's father, Mr. Levine, was a builder and had built both houses. They were identical, except that ours was white brick and theirs was red brick. No one noticed this, though, because the front entrances were on two different streets.
